OUR
FOCUS

To establish accountability within Bostonian representatives and further government entities we must address:

What systems do we have in place to hold our city representatives and city agencies fully accountable?

How can we further open channels of communication between civil servants, civil society, and Bostonians from all communities?

How can we protect the intentions of established policies and direct future intentions to benefit all Bostonians?

PRIORITIZING ACCOUNTABILITY

1

OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL

Julia Mejia filed an ordinance to establish an independent Office of Inspector General to "identify mismanagement and waste, and address and oversee complains made against Boston City departments." With intent to promote transparency and accountability within the City government this ordinance ensures honestly, integrity, and efficiency to constituents.

PROGRAMMING

With Mejia's role as a City Councilor, there is a responsibility to connect with constituents and address the needs of all. Through programming, specifically programs of 2024, Boston residents were seen and served. Connecting with marginalized groups through these programs has raised Mejia's ability to properly represent them in City Council through increased communications and understanding. Efforts to properly serve as a City Councilor comes with being accountable for all constituents needs and concerns. Events like the Education Town Hall, Women and Girls Conference, and the Immigrant MicroBusiness Mixer not only addresses the Councilor's responsibility to connect constituents with city resources, but also create community amongst Boston residents.

CIVILIAN REVIEW BOARD

Julia Mejia pushed for the establishment of a Civilian Review Board to increase Boston Police Department accountability. This board is an independent body from the BPD created "to review and investigate complaints of police misconduct and Internal Affairs investigations." This board of civilians recommended "disciplinary actions and applicable changed to the Department's policies, procedures and practices."
