's Story
Born in the Dominican Republic, and raised in the neighborhood of Dorchester. And since my early days, I have been driven by a lifelong pursuit of justice and equity; my early career attests to this, I founded a nonprofit education network, the Collaborate Parent Leadership Action Network, created and led civic engagements groups focused on voter registration, and worked on national social justice campaigns during my time as a producer for MTV.
Moved by a sense of urgency to uplift and amplify the voices of Bostonians,, I announced my candidacy for City Councilor At-Large in November 2018. Following the 2019 election and a historic two-month recount, I won my seat by a single vote.
Since then I have created the Committee on Government Accountability, Transparency, and Accessibility, and am the Vice Chair for the Committee on Education, as well as the Vice Chair for the Committee on Labor, Workforce, and Economic Development. With my performance I have also focused on creating countless opportunities for others to step into their power and advocate for positive change. Through 15 pieces of legislation and millions secured to advance the social, emotional, and economic well-being of our constituents our office has constantly prioritized the need of the people.
Over the last three terms I have been a loud, independent voice on the Boston City Council working to ensure that even those with opposite beliefs and values understand that at the end we must ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is key to hearing and understanding those who have historically marginalized, giving them a seat at the table to inform and drive the decisions being made. I believe my next term is a critical opportunity to be a bridge builder and to center those who are feeling marginalized and unheard.
Bostonians, we share more than just our city, we are a resilient community, filled with pride, and rich in diversity and history. Regardless of your roots in Boston, you are a Bostonian whose values and voice deserve a seat at the table. I have lived the story of so many Bostonians and will continue into the next term living and upholding our values. As I always say, I am not your voice I am your microphone, continuing to amplify your needs and wants. Together, let's continue to create an equitable, safe, and efficient Boston for all. Because all means ALL.
